Women's Mental Health Impact on Gender Equality & Economic Empowerment

As part of an official United Nations Commission on the Status of Women parallel event, the United Nations Liaison Committee of the New York County Psychiatric Society will be facilitating this virtual presentation

"There is no health without mental health” is especially relevant for women given higher prevalence rates of depression and anxiety and greater exposure to risk factors for mental illness like gender-based violence, abuse, trauma, traditional care-taking roles, financial dependence, and peri-natal and peri-menopausal periods. Worldwide, mental illnesses are among the leading causes of disability and loss of productive years; therefore, addressing these problems is fundamental to gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. In our session, we will discuss strategies to advocate for and address mental health conditions at a population, local, and individual level. Click here to download a flyer.
