Committee Charge

1. To partner with the United Nations system including its agencies and member states.
2. To interact with other non-governmental organizations working with the UN system, particularly NGOs of potential interest to the psychiatric profession.
3. To make psychiatry visible and heard in the UN system, that is, to ensure humane, effective and high quality treatment for all persons with mental disorders, including intellectual disorders and substance abuse disorders.
4. To advance and represent the profession of psychiatry in the UN system.
5. To bring international issues and concerns of the United Nations to members of the New York County Psychiatric Society.
6. To consider, advise and consult to the UN system to promote international welfare.
The UN Committee will report to the New York County Psychiatric Society Executive Council to describe its participation as well as proposed future activities. It will collaborate with other committees.

Under the leadership of Dr. Vivian Pender, the UN Committee organized a panel at the United Nations. The presentation was a side-event of the 10th Conference of States Parties of the 61st session of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
