A Presentation by the NYCPS Geriatric Committee

The Opportunities and Challenges of Healthy Aging in New York City

Please join the NYCPS Geriatric Psychiatry Committee in welcoming Elana Kieffer, Director, Center for Healthy Aging, The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM). In support of the recent Executive Order 23, signed by Governor Hochul to establish New York State’s first Master Plan for Aging (MPA), NYAM has released its report on, “Creating an Age-friendly Plan for the New York State Master Plan for Aging.” New York is in the vanguard of states establishing a Master Plan for Aging.  The Master Plan for Aging (MPA) is a cross-sector, state-led strategic planning resource that can help states transform the infrastructure and coordination of services for a rapidly aging population.  This initiative presents us with a tremendous opportunity to create a comprehensive age-friendly approach to meeting the needs of all older New Yorkers. Ms. Kieffer will lead us in a discussion on this strategic plan, and the innovations in policy initiatives led by the New York Academy of Medicine to strengthen our shared vision of a New York where people can thrive at every age. The presentation will conclude with an opportunity for member-led discussion, Q&A session.
