Committee on Advocacy and Government Relations (CAGR)
Chairs, Eric Marcus, M.D. and Gabrielle Shapiro, M.D.

Committee Charge

  1. The Committee for Advocacy Government Relations (CAGR) advocates for the professional interests of NYCPS members and the interests of their patients with the public officials who serve New York City. It monitors local, state, and federal legislative and public policy issues that are of concern to New York City psychiatrists and their patients.
  2. CAGR communicates with legislators and other public officials to ensure that officials critical to the formation of laws and regulations affecting the practice of psychiatry in NYC, are informed.
  3. CAGR organizes events for NYCPS to inspire our members to be active politically and to advocate for their patients at the city, state, and national levels.
  4. CAGR communicates the legislative priorities of NYCPS, NYSPA, and national APA leadership. The Committee monitors the national APA legislative updates and works with the NYCPS Assembly Representatives to develop Action Papers and Position Papers that can be brought to the semi-annual Assembly meetings.
